WEIGHT OF WAR RUN
2024

About
The Weight of War

The Weight of War Run is more than just an endurance event; it's a powerful movement that embodies the invisible burden many veterans continue to carry long after their service has ended. Held annually on the first Saturday of December, this symbolic run unites veterans and civilians in a shared effort to raise awareness for veteran suicide and mental health, and to foster community understanding and support.

Participants run in weighted vests and budgy smugglers; a bold, raw combination that represents both the physical and emotional load of military service and the vulnerability required to seek help. This dual symbolism lies at the heart of the Weight of War Run: to carry the weight, and to strip away the stigma.

What began in 2021 with a small group of determined runners has quickly grown into a major grassroots event. In 2023, we saw nearly 173 runners and over 300 supporters come together, raising $32,545.42; funds that go directly toward supporting veterans' transition to civilian life through programs like Survive to Thrive Nation (STTN). This funding has enabled over 30 veterans to access STTN’s holistic rehabilitation program, empowering them with the tools, mindset, and community they need to rebuild and reclaim their lives.

The run serves as a bridge, connecting civilians with the lived experiences of veterans and creating space for meaningful conversations around service, sacrifice, and healing. It reminds us that the battles don’t end on the field, and that together, we can lighten the load our veterans carry.

The Weight of War Run is 100% free to participate in, driven by donations, word-of-mouth, and an unshakable commitment to purpose over profit. Every step taken and every dollar raised makes a difference, not just in awareness, but in lives changed.

Join us. Shoulder the weight. Break the silence. Support the journey.
