5 seconds of glory is all it takes to get started. Getting fit is repeating it every day. 5 seconds is the time it takes to roll out of bed, hit the alarm, and say “yep, I’m going to the gym”. Personally, I struggle with this. But Josh makes this easy for me.

Because I know, it’s never going to be the same boring old shit, and every exercise is will get me one step closer to my goal. Trust me I’ve set some very different goals for Josh to prepare me for, martial arts tournaments, surf trips, snowboarding trips, and bodyweight targets (I do like to enjoy a few drinks and a bit here and there).

 

He has smashed it every time. It’s been over 8yrs now that we’ve worked together and I’m looking forward to a whole lot more.

I’ve been training with Josh for 7 years with a focus on dry-land pre-season ski training and outdoor rock climbing. When I can get overseas, 3 or 4 times a year for heli-skiing, ski touring and amateur comps.  They’re usually short trips with little time to acclimatise or warm up. Josh has been invaluable for training the right muscles and building ski-specific endurance so I can arrive in the mountains and go.  Since starting with Josh, early-season thigh-burn is a thing of the past.

 

I first trained with Josh following arthroscopic knee surgery and needed someone to direct my injury rehab.  He got me back to pre-injury level within a couple of months and the knee’s now stronger than ever.

On top of being a very insightful and knowledgeable coach for the 5 years we trained together, Josh is effortlessly personable and makes every workout session go by in the blink of an eye. He always pushes me further towards my goals, yet never forces me past my comfort level. This is even more true since I have suffered a massive stroke in September 2017, so I had to stop training for 6 months as I was paralysed on my left side.

 

I have been well looked after for 6 months by a very competent team of physiotherapists. By November 2017 I was out of my wheelchair and started to contemplate my return to the gym with Josh… I was far from being confident I could do that! However, it was the best decision ever to return to the gym. Physio is definitely critical, however, a well designed, diversified program is fun and motivating. Josh has taken the time to design a program adapted to my condition, taking into consideration the advice received from my physiotherapists.   

 

Each session is different and exciting as I wonder what he is going to have me do next. I’m now much stronger and my balance has improved drastically. I like the challenges that Josh presents me at every training session. He introduces each new exercise to me by doing it himself. His first question is always – “what are they asking you to do at physio lately?” And then he will work with that to find something that will contribute to my recovery.

 

Thank you for your help Josh, I love the boxing… but mainly to beat the hell out of you with the noodles…
